Muka muka, true crime fans! My aunt and I just dove headfirst into Netflix’s latest murder mystery, “What Jennifer Did,” and let me tell you, this one had us hooked from the first 911 call. Now, the title kinda spoils the ending, but trust me, the journey to figuring out what Jennifer did and why she did it is a wild ride.
True crime happens to be a huge interest of my aunt.
This ain’t your typical whodunit. We know Jennifer’s involved from the get-go, but the documentary unravels like a twisted puzzle, with each interview and piece of evidence revealing another layer of deception. Jennifer, the seemingly innocent daughter caught in a home invasion, slowly transforms into a master manipulator right before our eyes.
The story itself is crazy enough to make your jaw drop. Fake report cards, secret boyfriends, and a murder plot gone wrong? It’s like something straight outta a Lifetime movie, but with a chilling dose of reality. And the interviews? Man, they’re intense. You can practically see the investigators piecing together the truth as Jennifer’s story crumbles.
Now, here’s where my aunt and I were left scratching our heads. The motive. I mean, I get the whole Asian parent pressure thing (study diligently to become Doctor, Lawyer, Software engineer is a new one and of course be wealthy), but Jennifer’s reasons seemed all over the place. Was it the boyfriend? Was it freedom? Was it just plain ol’ crazy? We’re still debating this one over tea.
My aunt and I think the whole motivation was simply that their parents did not want Jennifer to date the guy she was in love with. Based on the documentary, he seemed to have a shady past and appears to be rightfully so for a parent to not want that for their child.
But here’s the thing about true crime docs – they always leave you wanting more. Where are they now? What’s the latest update? Luckily, “What Jennifer Did” delivers the goods, with a satisfyingly detailed account of the trials, convictions, and even Jennifer’s current situation. (Spoiler alert: she’s not sipping margaritas on a beach somewhere.)
And can we talk about the visuals? Not as many reenactments here, folks. We’re talking real footage, real interviews, and a gripping narrative that keeps you glued to the screen. If you’re a true crime junkie like my aunt and I, this one’s a must-watch. Just be prepared for some serious “how could she?!” moments and maybe a few sleepless nights. You’ve been warned!
This documentary did a good job for the toss and turns to keep you guessing, unless you have followed the true crime live as it unfolded before watching this documentary.
I would say yeah it sucks if your parents don’t want you dating certain someone, but just continue to date them over just killing your parents because they rejected you.
