Watch for Free on Tubi

Okay, fellow “Drag Race” enthusiasts, listen up! If you’re searching for a lighthearted horror-comedy with a generous dose of glitter and shade, then “Slay” on Tubi is your next must-watch. Now, as someone who’s followed Trinity the Tuck’s career with great interest and tunes into Heidi N Closet’s podcast religiously, I was practically vibrating with excitement to see these queens grace my screen in a horror setting. And let’s be real, I wasn’t expecting Oscar-worthy performances going in (having seen my fair share of “Hurricane Bianca” shenanigans), but I was absolutely ready for some campy fun, and “Slay” delivered!

The premise is simple: a drag family, led by the fabulous Mama Sue Flay (Trinity the Tuck, serving us boss energy), gets stranded in a spooky dive bar when a vampire outbreak turns the locals into bloodthirsty fiends. What ensues is a hilarious fight for survival, with wigs flying, heels clicking, and plenty of sassy one-liners. Trinity does a great job as mother of the house, and Cara Melle does a good job as the rebellious daughter, who finally learns Mama is right all along.

The real charm of “Slay” lies in its embrace of classic horror tropes with a dragtastic twist. We’ve got the “final girl” ingenue in Robin Banks (Heidi N Closet, absolutely nailing the wide-eyed innocence), the sassy queen with a heart of gold (Crystal Methyd as Bella Da Boys), and the wise-cracking veteran (Cara Melle as Olive Wood).

While the plot is predictable and the acting might not be groundbreaking, “Slay” knows exactly what it wants to be: a fun, escapist romp with plenty of laughs and a sprinkle of heart. It’s the kind of movie you watch with friends, a bowl of popcorn, and a healthy dose of irony.

And let’s be honest, seeing these “RuPaul’s Drag Race” alumni slay (pun intended!) in a horror setting is pure entertainment. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of the show or just looking for a lighthearted horror flick, “Slay” is sure to leave you entertained. Just don’t expect any deep social commentary or groundbreaking cinematic achievements – this is pure, unadulterated camp at its finest.
